Welcome to Tracy's Graphics Swirly Seamless Tile background. This was inspired by the weekly challenge I set to my graphics group to encourage the use of filters. I hope you have fun trying it out!

For this tutorial, you will need Paint Shop Pro 7, Eye Candy 4000 and Kang's Ice Cream Filter (you can download it here, - click on "For pcs" or "For Macs" where applicable). This is best viewed in Microsoft Internet Explorer as Netscape covers up the text with the screenshots!

1 Open up the image you wish to use, and make a copy (Ctrl+C then Ctrl+V)

2 Resize the image to 200x200 (or select a 200x200 section of it to use for your background image).

3 Select a square in the middle of the image start your selection from co-ordinates (look in bottom left hand of screen) 30,30, and drag it out to 170,170. (you can play around with how big or small you want it)

4 Apply Kang's Ice Cream Spiral Filter. (It's in Kang2) Play around with the colour settings until you get one that works with your chosen image. For this background, I used these settings:

5 Whilst still selected, go to Effects>Blur>Gaussian Blur. Use a radius of 3. De-select (Ctrl+D) You should now have something that looks similar to this (but obviously with your image!):

6 Now apply Eye Candy 4000's swirl with the  setting "Large Whirlpools" - making sure you have the seamless tile checked. (Again you can play around with these settings until you get something pleasing to the eye). My one now looks like this:

7 Put this image to one side for a moment. Open a new image 283x283, transparent background. Select pattern on your style buttons, and scroll through the thumbnails until you find the image you have just created. Flood fill the new image with this one set at an angle of 45 degrees.

8 Re-size the new image to 200x200 and save as a .jpg file. It is now ready to use on your project. And my one looks like this:

Great for stationery where you can't find a background to go with the image you've found!

I hope you liked my short tut! Have fun playing around with different images and see what great backgrounds you can come up with! ;o)
